Pablo Lu, partner at Mersan, took part in Copenhagen in one of the annual gatherings of the international legal profession and shares his reflections on the experience.
Our partner Pablo Cheng Lu took part in the 2026 Annual Conference of the International Bar Association (IBA), of which he is a member, held from October 4 to 9 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The Topics of the Meeting
The program covered topics such as arbitration and the enforcement of decisions in Latin America, competition law compliance in distribution and franchise agreements, the regulation of communications infrastructure and data governance, and new asset classes in the real estate sector. Artificial intelligence, present in almost every conversation, was the topic that closed the overview, and Pablo shares his perspective on it in the reflection below.
We are grateful for the high-quality spaces managed by the IBA, at an event that brings together corporate legal professionals from around the world every year.
Pablo’s Reflection
Every time I return to the IBA I come away with the same feeling: that of belonging to a community that, despite such different languages and cultures, shares the same concerns and the same vocation. The conversations in the hallways, the coffees with colleagues from other continents and the reunions with old friends remind me that this profession is built, above all, on trust between people.
This year there was a topic that was present in almost every talk, and it is the enormous challenge posed by super artificial intelligence. I confess it is impressive to see how tasks that used to take us weeks are now solved in minutes. But far from worrying me, it motivates me. I believe technology will never replace judgment, ethics or closeness to the client, and that our challenge is to learn, adapt and use it to do our work better.
I return to Paraguay with many ideas, new friends and the conviction that our country has much to offer the world.
